French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde, who earlier this week announced her candidacy to be the next chief of the International Monetary Fund, is hoping a tour of emerging markets like China and India will help broaden her support in developing countries.

- French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde announced her candidacy for the IMF’s top post in Paris on Wednesday.
French Defense Minister Gérard Longuet on Friday confirmed Ms. Lagarde, who already enjoys strong European backing, will soon be visiting India to push her candidacy for the top job at the IMF.
Speaking to reporters on the last day of his two-day visit here, Mr. Longuet didn't provide details on when exactly Ms. Lagarde would be coming to India but he did say she would make it one of the first stops of her global tour aimed at rallying support for her bid to become the fund's first female managing director.

"The significance of India is made clear by the fact that New Delhi will be one of the first places Ms. Lagarde will be coming to as part of her campaign," said Mr. Longuet.
Ms. Lagarde has said China will likely be her first stop, adding that she was prepared to visit the country as early as Sunday.
